Denison-Cannon Company was founded in 1920 to supply hardwood lumber to the furniture manufacturing industry, which was flourishing at that time in New England.  The business model then was that of the quintessential office brokerage: no land, buildings, inventory, trucks, or yard employees.  After World War II, as the furniture manufacturers slowly migrated south in search of cheaper labor and proximity of supply, Denison-Cannon evolved as a supplier to the residential building industry through their new customer, the ubiquitous retail lumber yard of New England.

In the early 1980’s, Denison-Cannon recognized the need to better serve their lumberyard customers and put a plan into effect, which would lead them to the present.  The inventory was increased, salesmen hired and sales expanded.  In 1992, the company leased ten acres of land and a warehouse in North Billerica, Massachusetts, and leased a flatbed truck. 

In 2004, based on industry research, Denison-Cannon decided to build on their strong foundation in the lumber business by branching out into the pre-finished hardwood flooring channel by adding a salesperson dedicated to this specific industry.  The company goal is to partner with the Flooring Retailers to become a resource for their hardwood flooring needs by focusing on unique and exotic woods and special orders.

Today, the company owns the property in North Billerica, has twenty-one employees including seven outside sales people, and runs three or four trucks per day to their customers in New England and beyond.
